At C-MASTERS, we have created a selection of 'must do' courses. After several years of providing training we know which topics and skills are considered complex by students. Most of these topics are touched upon in the RYA shorebased courses and in practical courses. However, a more intensive training is needed to become a confident skipper.
While preparing your passage or being underway, it is essential to properly understand the present weather and being aware of upcoming changes or negative surprises. Just checking an average weather app on a smartphone is not good seamanship. Knowing what to expect will keep you safe and maximise enjoyment for you and your crew.
This course is a 'must do' for skippers who wish to learn key aspects of meteorology and practically applying the forecast for passages on coastal waters or further offshore.
This course is strongly recommended for anyone preparing for a Yachtmaster exam.
This one-day classroom course is available for anyone who wishes to demystify meteorology, understand wind and weather systems and how it affects an envisioned passage.
The aim of this course is to give a thorough background into meteorology and becoming skilled in spotting weather trends. We explain what causes weather, and how to incorporate forecasts in your plan for an enjoyable and safe passage.
This is also an ideal course for Yachtmaster candidates in preparation of their Yachtmaster Offshore examination.
The course includes the following topics:
We recommend the RYA Weather handbook and the Reeds Maritime Meteorology handbook.
The RYA shorebased navigation classroom courses include practicing scenarios for passage planning on the basis of weather forecasts.
