Experience creates a confident skippers.
Skills can be obtained by doing practical and theoretical RYA courses, which provide for a very solid basis. However, at C-MASTERS we also offer a complimentary approach to learning by building up experience ... and confidence.
A demanding, rewarding passage designed for sailors ready to step up to the next level.
This 7-day, 650-nautical-mile experience builder delivers a truly diverse offshore passage, combining the best of the Baltic and North Sea. Starting in Gothenburg and finishing in the Zeeland Delta, this voyage is designed to develop real-world seamanship through coastal, offshore, tidal, and inland navigation.
At the close of the Scandinavian summer—when the Swedish west coast begins to quiet—we sail our yacht Le Grand Bleu back to her home berth at Delta Marina in Kortgene. This delivery passage offers a unique blend of environments: from the intricate Gothenburg archipelago to the open waters of the southern North Sea.
A Dynamic and Weather-Driven Route
Each voyage is shaped by conditions, making every passage unique. Depending on weather and planning, potential routes include:
This variety ensures exposure to a wide range of navigational challenges and decision-making scenarios.
Real Seamanship in Practice
The Danish waters introduce narrow channels, traffic separation schemes, and precise coastal navigation through well-marked but demanding passages. Participants are actively involved in preparing and presenting passage plans for these legs.
A highlight of the voyage is the transit of the Kiel Canal—one of Europe’s busiest and most historic waterways—followed by entry into the tidal waters of the Elbe and onward to Cuxhaven, the gateway to the North Sea.
From here, the challenge intensifies. Strong tidal streams, commercial traffic, and shallow waters in the German Bight and Wadden Sea demand accurate planning and execution. Night sailing and watchkeeping form an essential part of the experience.
Advanced Navigation & Decision Making
As we approach the Dutch coast, routing decisions become critical. Depending on timing and conditions, we may sail offshore via Den Helder or navigate the tidal Wadden Sea. An inland alternative via the IJsselmeer and Amsterdam may also be considered.
The final stage takes us through the dynamic waters of Zeeland, including lock passages and tidal channels, before returning Le Grand Bleu to her berth in Kortgene.
