This experience builder is perfect for beginning sailors looking to build up offshore and coastal miles. It includes a passage along the Belgian coast or crossing to UK, France and Netherlands. You will be developing key skills such as passage planning, pilotage, tide calculations, handling tidal currents, and a touch of night sailing.
Description of this experience builder:
This experience builder starts from Nieuwpoort. The route is determined on the spot, either along the coast or a combination of coastal navigation and crossing to England. To be on the safe side, you should bring your passport and apply for an ETA. The ETA can be requested via https://www.gov.uk/eta.
The Dutch coast is also among the possibilities. The weather will determine the route taken.
Example of one of the routes The route departs from our base in Nieuwpoort and sets sail in a Southerly direction along the coast of Belgium. We will be experiencing the effects of tide, and navigate through shallow sand bank areas. After staying a night at one of the French coastal ports, we will head westwards. Subject to weather conditions we might continue to the English coast and visit Dover or Ramsgate. On our way back, we would cross the traffic seperation scheme (TSS), encountering large offshore commercial traffic. Our final destination is our base in Nieuwpoort.
The miles on this experience builder will be mainly made during daytime, although a late (night-time) arrival is certainly possible.
We will teach you preparing and executing the passage, and work with you on your navigation and sailing skills.
This experience builder is ideal if you are preparing yourself for Day Skipper, or if you need extra experience and training after having obtained your Competent Crew or Day Skipper certificate.
