Experience is king. After learning the theoretical and practical skills, it is important for enthusiastic sailors to start putting some miles under their belt. The type of miles may however differ depending on the needs of our clients. For those sailors that need to build up experience and miles at sea, we have defined this offering.
This Experience Builder is aimed at beginning sailors. It is an enjoyable balanced mix of making miles, visiting harbours and rivers, and at the same time learning to structure a passage plan, use pilotage, do calculations on height of tide, handling tidal currents, and a bit of sailing at night.
Description of this experience builder:
This experience builder adds a total of about 120 miles to your nautical experience, sailing in Zeeland and adjacent waters with stops in various ports.
Route We will depart from our base in Kats and explore the Oosterschelde tidal water. We will be experiencing the effects of tide, navigate through shallow sand bank areas and encounter shipping traffic. After staying a night in Zierikzee, we will pass the locks and enter the North Sea. We will be sailing along the coast of the Netherlands, navigating our way using buoys and lighthouses. After a long day on the water, we will be arriving at the locks of Stellendam, which we will pass with as our destination the lovely town of Hellevoetsluis.
The next morning, we will continue our way to the Willemstad, one of the most beautiful fortified cities in the south of the Netherlands. On the last days of your experience builder, we will be sailing and navigating our way back to Kats, allowing for time to discover some of the other teasures of Zeeland.
What do you get at the end:
Your miles and day/night sailing hours will be signed off in your personal logbook at the end of the mile builder.
We recommend following a RYA shorebased navigation course before departure.
