The RYA Coastal Skipper practical course is a 5 day training on tidal waters for skippers who want to solidify their knowledge and skills of sailing and navigation aimed at advanced skippering of yachts on coastal and offshore passages by day and night.
You will learn to plan and execute more complex passages by day and night as well as being able to manoeuvre your yacht in more demanding situations and under various conditions. The Coastal Skipper course is an intensive sailing week and will help you to gain the confidence needed for skippering a yacht on coastal passages.
Amongst other you will learn:
In order to get the maximum out of this course, we recommend having attended the RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster shorebased course, or have knowledge to that level, as your instructor will not have time to teach the theory syllabus during this practical sail cruising week.
Ability after the course
By the end of the course you should be able to sail a yacht on coastal routes, and have the skills and knowledge to start building up more miles and additional experience for becoming a Yachtmaster.
After completing this course, we recommend extending your knowledge with some of our RYA specialist shorebased courses, in particular the RYA Radar, RYA Diesel Engine and the Short Range Certificate VHF course, ideally combined with practical training as part of our C-MASTERclasses.
The Coastal Skipper Certificate of Competence can be commercially endorsed for anyone with ambition to find work as a professional crew member.
This is the time to start making lots of miles if you are considering becoming a Yachtmaster. Our mile builders are ideally suited to join others sharing the same objective to obtain the required qualifying miles and sharpen your skills.
We strongly recommend attending the RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster shorebased theory course, before attending the Coastal Skipper practical course.
C-MASTERS is located in a perfect sailing area with tidal water, non-tidal water, bridges, locks.
Every moment was a learning moment with theory and practice. I enjoyed it !
